SWAMP SOCCER

August 4th 2008 06:53
SWAMP SOCCER

Northern Finland.

That is where the Swamp Soccer World Championships were held in 2008.

It is in it's tenth year.

The competition uses a natural swamp outside the town of Hyrynsalmi.

The swamp housed 22 pitches.

340 teams from all over the world took part in the anything goes comp.

The comp was the brain child of two Finnish cross country skiers looking for a way to train during summer.

Russian team Sputnik won the comp for the second year in a row.
